We decided to do some interior and exterior refurbishment on the class 108 DMBS number 53628 now that we’re in the “closed” season. As soon as we had finished running the Santa trains, we turned our attention to the DMBS and removed the “Santa Workshop” from the guard’s compartment so we could start work on the interior.
First we removed the seats, scraped off all the old lino floor covering, cleaned up the hatches, removed the heating covers and cleaned the window frames.
The seat frames have all been taken out, sanded down, repaired and given a new coat of paint. The interior roof of the small 19-seater compartment behind the driver’s cab is in the process of being replaced and new lighting fitted. Next the old wooden floor will be taken up and replaced all with new flooring and metal strips which secure the seats. Then new lino floorcovering can be fitted.
Mechanically, a refurbished fuel pump for the number one engine has come back from the factory and will be fitted soon, bringing both engines back in good working order.
